CHOW Meeting February 12, 2024

The following members were in attendance: Kay Aiken, Becky Costas, Georgann Haines, Robin
Hefner and Alice Shimek.
Chairperson Becky Costas opened the meeting with a prayer of blessing for the less fortunate
and for guidance in our thoughts and words to become aware in promoting more positivity.
There was a consensus of opinion to accept the November minutes.
Treasurer Report:
The beginning balance was $3000.95. Income: anonymous donation of $300.00; Floyd Double
donation of $30.00; Benevity Liberty Mutual donation of $166.88. Expenditures include: Grahn
Trip for truck and lodging of $771.30; Staples for packing tape of $21.34. The current balance is
$2705.19.
There was a consensus of opinion to accept the Treasurer report.
Old Business:
Warehouse:
Sandy Antonelli donated 4 bags of clothing, 1 box, and a purse. Thank you letter was
sent.
Tina Petiya donated 8 boxes of clothing, a mattress pad and full-size sheets, a quilt, a
blanket, a comforter, a nightstand, a dresser, a chest of drawers, and a full sized bed frame
with headboard. Thank you letter was sent.
On November 27, 2023, Leslie Bebech, Inez Gorse, Georgann Haines, Robin Hefner,
Tina Petiya, Barbara Sprockett, and Becky Costas sorted and packed donations for Grahn.
A full-size bed frame with headboard is stored in the container.
2 end tables, 2 lamps, and a TV stand need to be picked up from Bazetta Christian.
Beatitude House: No report
Grahn, KY: 45 trips
Due to the abundance of food collected, new volunteers were recruited to assist with loading the
trucks for Grahn. Because of the impact this experience had on the volunteers, all have offered
to assist CHOW with future endeavors. Becky gave an overview of the trip to Grahn, along with
sharing pictures from the Grahn School Community Center. She stated it was a dramatic trip.
The pantry food shelves were nearly empty and are now filled with food. This ordeal was an
emotional experience for their volunteers. Additionally, a great time continued at the Jam Fest!
Due to other organizations’ assistance, CHOW, at this time, will not be donating any additional
socks and underwear.
Supplies for 2024 backpacks: 8 backpacks donated by Lakeview School, 13 binders, 67 book
covers, 14 small calculators, 13 spiral notebooks, 20 – 24 pack of crayons, 92 erasers, 69 pencil
top erasers, 6 – 150 count and 2 – 500 count of notebook paper, 100 folders, 1 glue bottle, 14
glue sticks, 39 highlighters, 3 lip gloss, 0 packs of markers, 1 box of 1 subject spiral notebooks,
43 spiral notebooks, 24 pencil pouches, 357 pencils, 3 packs of 12, 5 packs of 24 count colored
pencils, 4 mechanical pencils, 0 pencil sharpeners, 16 pens, 30 rulers, 12 large scissors, 4
sunscreen; girls have 2 large, 2 small, 1 Xsmall, T-shirts; boys have 1 large, l medium; 11 teen
girls’ socks; 7 black and 7 white boys’ socks.
Fundraising:
Quiz Night will be held on Saturday, April 27 at 7:00 pm at Father Kish Parish Hall.
A light meal of a variety of soups along with vegetables and various dips will be served. For
dessert, a variety of delicious sheet cakes will be available. Coffee, soft drinks, and water will be
available.
Food preparation will take place on Friday, April 26 at 1:00 pm.
Becky will contact volunteers to assist with the various jobs of Quiz Night, i.e. kitchen,
admission, computer, scorers, and collecting team answer sheets.
Communication:
LOAF Report
There was a consensus of opinion to pay $400.00 for the CHOW website renewal. Becky will
keep it updated with current CHOW information.
